Bouto differ from their relatives not only by their character, but also by their external characteristics. Their peculiarity lies in the fact that on reaching a certain age, their coloring begins to change. Coloring may be different. For example, bright red or very dark. As a rule, the upper torso of these amazing animals is colored bluish or gray, while the lower half is pink in color. Body length can be 2.5-3 m.These are the biggest river dolphins. There are up to 108 teeth, which are erased due to solid food. Their eyes are small, and the lenses and cornea are yellow. Thanks to this, the eyes are protected from the sun. Instead of a dorsal fin on the back, they have a hump. Also these dolphins have a neck, and they can turn their heads. They have very thick cheeks, because of which nothing is visible to the animal, therefore, when they search for food at the bottom, they swim upwards with their belly.

Where dwells

Inia live in the Amazon and the entire river system of this river. This means that you can see them in many reservoirs in Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela. Since some of the Amazon tributaries are connected with the Orinoco, they can also be seen in this river. These animals live in lakes, rivers of North America, regardless of the size of the reservoir.

Amazonian dolphins prefer to live in the same place. But they are characterized by seasonal migrations. If the water level in a pond falls, they usually look for a deeper place. During the period when the river is overflowed, they love to play on the flooded flood plain. When the rainy season begins, these dolphins can migrate to another river.

Inia prefer to live alone. The groups are collected only during breeding.

Breeding

You can often see mother and cub together. Scientists have not fully studied the reproduction of this species. It is believed that males are fighting for a female who lives after the birth of a baby in shallow water. There are no predators here, it is easier to find food, and the baby is easier to surface to the surface for a breath of air. During the year, the mother feeds the little dolphin with milk, but takes care of it for about 2 more years. Sexual maturity comes in 5 years. At this age, they gather in packs, fighting for the chosen one.
