Under the mornado is meant a large butterfly. It lives preferably in Eurasia, but bypasses tropical regions. Otherwise, this variety is called antiopa.
Description
- Females make laying at the beginning of the summer time. After 15–20 days, the larvae appear pigmented with black or dark gray. There are whitish blotches and reddish specks on them. Taurus covered with a small pile and thorns.
- The larvae feed on the foliage of the trees. In the middle of summer, they pupate, pupae attach to trees and are in this condition for more than 10 days. Adults are pigmented with black or dark, there are light edging, which pass through the wings. Along the edges of these kayochki painted blue.
- Butterflies are considered to be large, although they are rather average. The wingspan of an individual reaches about 9 cm. This is the maximum value, often there are representatives of the family, of much smaller dimensions.
- The pigmentation of individuals of two sexes varies slightly, but the head remains invariably black. It flaunts the trunk, 2 pairs of eyes simple and complex, as well as a mustache, which helps lepidoptera to cognize the environment.
- The paws are equipped with taste buds, the legs themselves consist of the calf, trochanter, coxae and thighs. The wings have a webbed structure. They are strong, so individuals fly long. The abdominal part consists of 10 sections, in this area the organs of reproduction and respiration are observed.
Breeding
- These butterflies are not considered fruitful enough. They can lay eggs, as previously mentioned, annually, but only once. In the back of the abdominal section are special glands that secrete the secret and thereby attract the male sex. They find females by smell, which they feel from a long distance.
- When the newly born couple is formed and ready to breed, mating begins. This process can continue for a long time, it often lasts from half an hour to several hours and even more. Individuals mate, being on the ground or sitting on plants.
- In the vastness of our homeland, these species of lepidoptera are shown in summer. As a rule, this happens either in the middle or at the end of the season. They can be found up to the middle of autumn. If the temperature regime at night drops sharply, butterflies begin to search for shelters for a comfortable existence.
Characteristics
- A characteristic feature of the individual can be considered that they almost never feed on the nectar of flowering plants. The basis of their diet, as a rule, includes over-ripe fruits. It is the fragrance of fermentation that attracts the attention of these insects.
- They can stick around a large flock of tree, which lets fermented juice. Most often, such a liquid acts on the damaged trunks. It is worth noting that these butterflies were noticed when they ate birch sap.
- Surprisingly, during the meal with the fermented juice, the insects completely lose their vigilance. They can sit on field weeds or flowers. In addition, these butterflies compensate for the lack of trace elements in their bodies from rotting debris and animal excrement.
- Such individuals simply need a huge amount of moisture. In other conditions, away from ponds, insects will not be able to survive. As mentioned earlier, birch sap for mournages is a real delicacy.
- As for the caterpillars, they in most cases give preference to food plants. Therefore, their diet is extensive. Caterpillars actively devour linden, alder, maple, hawthorn, wild rose, nettle, poplar and willow.
Lifestyle
- As noted earlier, such butterflies can only be seen on flowers in rare cases. Such individuals appear only in one generation. As for the subspecies, they are unknown. However, it is worth noting that such individuals have a large number of morphs.
- Such individuals may differ in the brightness of the color. Moreover, the external characteristics depend on the habitat and time of year. If the imago was born in the spring, then it will have a more faded color. Individuals are adapted for long flights.
A butterfly can go on a long journey as soon as it is born. Flight duration will directly depend on weather conditions. In summer, when the weather is sunny, the migration of insects stretches for several days.Butterflies fly out mainly in the middle of summer.
