 Czech Terrier

History and origin

Earlier it was already mentioned that the breed was bred by artificial means. A breeder, a dog lover, a leading dog handler of the country, he first bred a Scottish breed with a broad chest and short legs. Because of this, terriers have stopped using in hunting, because their powerful front part did not allow penetration into the burrows.

Then I had to reconsider my decision in order to get a pet capable of helping in the hunt. The task was to make the chest already so that the dog could easily make its way into the cracks where the small animal lives. The work was carried out with dogs that also had the prefix "terrier". We are talking about scotch tapes, selikhems, dandy-dinmonts, etc.

For 10 years, carried out breeding work. After this time, still managed to get the Czech, or Bohemian, terrier. He is hardy, good-natured, devoted, acts as a great helper in the hunt. Physical data led the International Canine Federation to establish standards for the breed and to accept dogs into its ranks.

Standards

  1. This dog belongs to the breeds of hunters, respectively, the indicators come from this. Elongated body, rectangular head, developed muscles, excellent cartilage and bone composition. Short, but at the same time strong and fairly stable paws allow dogs to easily make their way into the mink.

As for weight, it fluctuates around 6-10 kg. Members of the family are slowly running, but their movements do not hold down anything.
  3. Again, adhering to global standards, there are certain requirements for the breed. The head is rectangular, elongated, reaching a length of about 20 cm and 10 cm wide. The frontal part does not stand out, it is flat. The transition to the nose is smooth, small. The cheekbones are practically not expressed, there is a small mound on the back of the head, the area behind the ears of the bitches is smaller than that of the males.
  4. The muzzle must be strictly extended, not narrowed, this is a deviation from the norm. There is no special transition from the nose to the forehead, but you can see it. Lips are not dry, collected, do not sag. Pigmentation of black or about that shade is allowed. All hunting breeds boast strong jaws, the Czech Terrier is no exception. The bite is correct, the teeth are medium, the grip is steel. Sometimes there are 2 molars on the lower jaw.
  5. No matter what color your pet has, its nose will be black. Ears sag, have a triangular shape, cover the shells.Eyes are located deep in their grooves, differ in brown color. The view is peaceful, calm.
  6. The neck is powerful, but not thick, smoothly bent. An elongated body has almost no withers. Developed and muscular croup slightly omitted. The loin has a light roundness, rather wide. The pelvis is slightly higher than the withers themselves.

The line of the abdomen is picked up, the groin is filled enough. Paws are articulate, the front ones are slightly longer than the rear ones. The claws are strong, dense, fleshy pads.
  8. Low set tail has its own specific size. It should not exceed or belittle the figures of 19 cm. Thick at the base, narrow by the end (as in all similar breeds). If the dog is calm, its tail lowers and slightly bends at the end. If the dog is active or interested, the tail is saber-shaped. If he curls up like a pig, this is a drawback.
  9. The paws of the animal are parallel to each other. They have strong bones, development and muscularity. Short, with prominent joints.Elbows can be called loose, thighs with shoulders muscular.
