How to get rid of ants in flower pots

Because of their ubiquity, ants have become a real problem for many people. Often the anthills are not just next to the dwelling of a person, but also in the room itself in some secluded corner where no one looks.

Where do these insects come from? It is believed that they were brought back from Ancient Egypt, because in the middle of the XVIII century, Carl Linnaeus was provided with several ants found in the tombs of the Egyptian pharaohs. Actually, since then there was a problem of ants living in a man’s house.

Emerging difficulties

1. Do not forget that the anthill - a huge nest, divided into several parts, which are interconnected by turns. In each part there are 3-4 females stably bringing offspring, therefore, when fighting insects, search every corner of your home so that the ant colony does not resurface, bringing new inconveniences.
2. Ants are very tenacious.They easily adapt to changing environmental conditions. Moreover, they are able to adapt to certain types of poisons, which also complicates the process.

Causes of insects

Of course, seeing in the dwelling of such unexpected guests, any person will ask the question: “Where is it from?”. And it is quite logical, because the ants just will not fall on your head, you need to look for the root cause.

Ants appear where:

1. There is no general cleaning or extremely rare. These insects eat the remnants of food from our table, fallen crumbs, etc., therefore, in order to avoid the appearance of an ant colony in the house, keep the room clean.
2. It is warm, because these insects are thermophilic (to add the lack of hygiene - ideal conditions for the existence of a colony).
3. Nearby there is a struggle with them, and therefore they are simply looking for a new home. If you do this kind of work in your home, then you should think about the same, so as not to shelter these small pests.
4. On the street there is an anthill, and you just brought insects or their eggs, larvae on the sole.

Correct determination of the cause of the appearance will help you in choosing the method of combating ants and its successful completion.

How to deal with them

If there are pots with flowers in your abode, then ants will surely settle in them. This will not lead to good things: insects will spoil the soil or they will gnaw through the roots of the plant, which will lead to its death.

The most common way to get rid of ants is to flood their nest.

Pots can be placed in a deep tank or bath so that they are completely standing in water. If it is not convenient to lift the pot, then you can fill it with water, plugging before it all the holes that remove excess water.

After some time, the ants will begin to leave the soil, the remaining simply choke.

After about half an hour, drain the water and, if possible, transplant the plant into a new soil, thoroughly cleaning its roots from the old earth (there could be laid eggs in it).

Smells against ants
Wipe ant "route" garlic or sunflower oil. Also, you can put something smelling like wormwood, anise, parsley, wild mint, cloves, tomato tops near their habitat.These smells do not like ants and will cause them to flee.

Little tricks

1. Tape the edges of the pots with adhesive tape or place a saucer with candied water next to it. But this temporary measure will not scare away ants, so besides this use more radical means.
2. The legs of the tables or coasters can be wrapped in foil in the manner of a skirt: ants cannot climb over its edge. But do not forget that you need to eliminate the original cause, and not constantly deal with the consequences.

All these methods will only work if together with the “potty” ants you destroy the entire colony that settled near your house or directly in it.

With the appearance of any insects, remember that you need to destroy all the foci of their habitats near you, then you will not have to save your plants over and over again from ant invasion.
