How to get rid of scoliosis at home

Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine, which has non-physiological bends. Scoliosis can be C-, S-, Z-shaped, depending on the shape of the curvature. Severe deformity of the spinal column leads to asymmetry of the hips, shoulders and shoulder blades. Scoliosis can be observed in both children and adults. Most often, this disease is diagnosed in adolescence. About 10% of all adolescents have scoliosis of various degrees. But only 1 percent of them require therapeutic treatment. However, it is impossible to close our eyes to scoliosis. With the correct correction of living conditions and an integrated approach, scoliosis can be eliminated.

How to recognize scoliosis

Scoliosis develops gradually and may not be noticeable even to the most attentive parents. It is worth paying attention to the child if he slouches, if the head is all the time slightly tilted in the same direction. Not normal protruding or asymmetrical blades.Obvious scoliosis occurs with asymmetry of the shoulders, hips, and waist. In adolescent girls, asymmetry may be in the area of the mammary glands. The rib cage can be deformed, the child relies more on one leg. Recognize scoliosis in a child can be as follows: you need to stand exactly, heels together, socks apart. The child should bend over without bending the knees. Normally, the back should form an even arc. With scoliosis, the right and left sides are asymmetrical when viewed from behind. Also, with this disease, it is difficult for a child to stand or sit for a long time.

Diagnosis of scoliosis is a long time. First, the doctor carries out an examination and carries out physical tests, in which the patient must pass on his socks, heels, make several characteristic movements. Then an x-ray, MRI, and curvature determination with a scoliograph are performed. Depending on all these data, the type and severity of the disease is established.

Causes of scoliosis in children and adults

Scoliosis in children most often develops due to a sedentary lifestyle, a weak muscular system, and an abnormal body position.Lack of vitamins can cause flexibility and fragility of bones, rickets. Scoliosis can occur due to various injuries and deformities of the ribs and spine. Diseases of the neuromuscular system (for example, cerebral palsy) can also become a risk factor. Sometimes scoliosis occurs during long-term pursuits of certain sports — for example, tennis, badminton, javelin throwing, and the nucleus, where both hands are unevenly involved. The same effect can give a violin. Adult scoliosis in most cases is the same childhood disease that stays in place or develops over the years.

Degree of scoliosis

Depending on the severity of the disease, scoliosis is divided into degrees.

  1. First degree - the lightest and usually not visible either to the patient or to others. This deviation from the axis is less than 10 degrees. It is often considered the norm, since people are in most cases asymmetrical. When diagnosing scoliosis of the first degree, a child is prescribed physical exercise, which is usually sufficient.
  2. Second degree scoliosis - This is a deviation from the norm by 10-25 degrees. This degree requires urgent correction to stop the progression of the curvature. In this case, you can carry out home treatment of scoliosis, but under the supervision of an experienced orthopedic surgeon.
  3. Third degree of scoliosis - These are pronounced changes in the spinal column, characterized by 25-50 degrees of curvature. This is a serious pathology that requires wearing a bandage and a corset.
  4. Fourth degree of scoliosis - a curvature more than 50 degrees. This degree is quite rare and is almost always accompanied by muscular-neurological diseases.

Depending on the degree of scoliosis, you need to properly approach the methods of treatment of the disease.

Physiotherapy against scoliosis

In the first degree of scoliosis, the child should be given to the sports section to strengthen his muscular corset. It is best to go skiing and gymnastics when curving the spine. Every morning, the patient must do exercises to stretch and strengthen the muscles. We must try to keep an active lifestyle. At school, at recess, you need to move more, do an easy warm-up, because sitting at a desk is a serious test for the spinal cord.

An adult person with scoliosis and having a sitting job should take regular breaks. Very effective exercise in which you need to stand with your back to the wall and lean against it with both shoulder blades. Good exercises on the bar, therapeutic exercises, Pilates, exercises on fitball. It is useful for adults to go to the gym and practice under the supervision of an experienced instructor. Here are a few medical exercises for scoliosis that you can do at home.

 Physiotherapy against scoliosis

  1. Stand straight, feet shoulder-width apart, hands in a lock in front of your eyes. Slowly pull your head up, as if you want to look out for your hands. Keep your neck stretched out for a few seconds. Then slowly turn it to the right and then to the left.
  2. Stand up straight and head to the side. Try to see the heel of the opposite leg. That is, if we turn our head to the left, we try to fix our eyes on the right heel and vice versa. Especially we train the side that goes "tight." Movement should be slow and smooth.
  3. Straight stand, hands at the seams. Gently squeeze and unclench the shoulder blades, moving them to the spine, then in different directions.
  4. Get on all fours and gently bend your back like a cat.Hold your back in this position, and then arch it in the opposite direction, forming an arc. Movement should be slow, you need to feel your muscles.
  5. Stand on all fours and at the same time raise your right leg and left arm. Try to fold your limbs back as far as possible while arching your back. Do not forget to work the opposite side.
  6. Lie on your back, stretch your arms in the continuation of the body. Stretch your spine, as if you want to stretch it in length. Fix in such a tense state for three seconds, rest for 15 seconds and repeat the exercise.

How to get rid of scoliosis at home

Here are the basic steps you need to take to bring the spine in order.

  1. Furniture. It is very important to pay attention to the objects that surround you. A chair and a table for a patient with scoliosis should be appropriate for his height so that the person does not slouch and does not sit at the table with raised shoulders. It is very important to sleep on a hard bed - the mattress should be thin.
  2. Massage. This is a good way to increase circulation in the back area. However, amateurs in this matter may not be just useless - sometimes they only worsen the situation.Only an experienced specialist should do the massage for scoliosis, it is better to use a manual therapist.
  3. Swimming. This is one of the best physical exertion, which is very useful for scoliosis. In water, the body weighs much less, the spine is less stressed. The vertebrae and muscles are straightened and developed. Daily hour swimming and aqua aerobics can correct even severe distortions.
  4. Physiotherapy. It consists in various ways of influencing weak and atrophied back muscles. After such an effect, the blood supply to the tissues improves, a muscular corset is formed. Electrophoresis is the stimulation of muscles by low-frequency currents that contract muscle fibers and make them work. Also, scoliosis uses UHF-therapy, Charcot's douche, laser, magnets, electrostimulation.
  5. Nutrition. It is very important that the body receives daily the right dose of calcium, which is able to support weak bones. Remember, calcium is taken with vitamin D3, which is not absorbed without it.

Remember that the treatment of scoliosis - a comprehensive event. Acting in all directions, you can not only prevent the development of the disease, but also completely cure it.
