Pour hot soup or tea simply. Thermal burns are often curious toddlers who love to check pots and mom's cups. Adults who like to put dishes with boiling water on the edge of the table or an unstable surface suffer. If a hot liquid gets on your skin, you need not to panic, but to act. The sooner a person is given first aid, the higher the likelihood that everything will end in a slight fright and a little swelling.
Degree of damage
Wet clothes are removed from a patient bathed in boiling water. Damaged areas are examined and determine how badly the skin has suffered:
- Redness and swelling indicate first degree burns. Boiling water damaged only the upper layer of the epidermis, which is quickly restored.
- Blisters and swelling are second-degree symptoms. If you properly care for wounds that are formed from bursting blisters, the skin will recover after 2 weeks.
- In the third degree, the blisters open immediately after the epithelium contacts boiling water. Soft tissues are damaged, so deep ulcers are formed in the affected area, in which yellow adipose tissue can be seen.
- The fourth degree of a burn is received by the people who have fallen in a container with hot water. With long contact with boiling water, muscles and tendons are damaged. Soft tissues die off, their rejection and decay begins.
At home, only first and second degree burns can be treated. The hospital must be contacted if boiling water gets on the face, head, neck, chest or genitals. It is forbidden to self-medicate if a small child has suffered. The patient must be examined by a doctor. He will determine the degree of burn and pick up medications that accelerate the healing and restoration of the epithelium.
Cold and disinfection
The part of the body on which boiled water fell is immediately put under the tap and turn on cool water. Low temperatures slow down blood circulation, relieve swelling, and dull pain. The likelihood of blisters on the burned skin is reduced.
Do not turn on ice water. A sharp temperature drop is a shock for the injured epithelium. A person gets frostbite, which leads to the death of the upper layer of the skin. Ulcers that do not heal for a long time are formed. The risk of infection and suppuration of the burn increases.
A reddened hand or foot is kept under a stream of cool water for 20 minutes, then soap suds are applied to the affected area to clean it from bacteria. The skin is gently wiped with a piece of sterile bandage, treated with an antiseptic.
Calendula tincture, vodka and peroxide only increase the pain and inflammation. Alcohol-based drugs irritate the skin and slow down the recovery. Thermal burns are treated with aqueous solutions and aerosols.
Liquid antiseptic can be prepared from furatsilin. Crush 10 tablets and mix with a liter of hot water. Wait for the solution to cool, pour the blisters. It is impossible that the tool fell into open wounds. If there is no furatsilina in the medicine cabinet, the drug is replaced by penicillin. The skin is sprinkled with powder from tablets. Means soothes, disinfects and protects against blisters.
If there is no cool water in the house, a piece of meat from the freezer is useful.Put the blank in a clean plastic bag, wrap it with a sterile bandage. Cover the skin with boiling water with a cloth and put a cold compress on top. Frozen meat stops swelling and relieves pain. The workpiece is prohibited to apply to bare skin. Fabric and gauze protects the epithelium from infection and frostbite.
Important: You can apply ice only to reddened areas that do not have blisters. The skin on which bubbles were formed is treated with antiseptics, and then a bandage is applied.
Preparations with burn boiling water
Blisters and fresh wounds can not be rubbed with vegetable oil or baby cream. Any product containing fat is contraindicated. It forms a film that prevents the skin from breathing. Fat is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Microbes get burned, infection begins. Pus is formed in the ulcers, inflammation spreads to healthy tissues.
The skin around the burn is smeared with iodine or rubbed with an alcohol-containing antiseptic, for example, with peroxide or Chlorhexidine. Drugs should not fall on fresh wounds. Sores are treated with gels or aerosols:
- Solcoseryl dries bursting blisters. The gel heals and regenerates the skin.
- Panthenol is recommended for thermal burns. The drug removes burning sensation, pain and soothes redness. Helps with swelling and gently disinfects wounds. In case of burns it is worth buying Panthenol in the form of an aerosol.
- Argovasna Nut is a gel recommended for second-degree burns. The tool removes redness, reduces blisters and dries sores. It disinfects the skin, starts the regeneration processes. Thanks to the gel no scars remain.
- Retinol - anti-inflammatory antiseptic that relieves and restores the epithelium. Accelerates the healing of burns, protects against scarring.
- Olazol - spray, which consists of antimicrobial agents and sea buckthorn oil. The drug helps with burning, small swelling and blistering. It is convenient to apply means on open wounds.
The area where the boiling water has come is immediately treated with Sulfargin ointment. The drug stops the death of the deep layers of the epithelium, prevents the appearance of blisters. Disinfects and soothes unpleasant sensations.
To dried wounds, which are 2–3 days old, apply Levomekol ointment. The tool is applied in a thick layer on a piece of sterile bandage. Spread evenly over the fabric, cover the injured skin with a compress. Top bandage, which is removed after 20 hours. Levomekol disinfects and heals wounds, pulls pus.
Ulcers, smeared with antiseptic, bandaged. You can apply a bandage made of pure natural fabric, which is ironed several times with a hot iron. Wait until the material has cooled, and then apply to the burned skin.
A person who has overturned boiling water over himself is recommended to lie down for 1-2 hours. The body must rest after stress. The affected limb is lifted by placing a pillow or roll of blanket under it. Thanks to this swelling will decrease.
Folk remedies
A first degree burn is treated with a baking soda gruel. Pour a few spoons of powder into the cup, dilute with cool water. A piece of ice is applied to the limb, and then a slurry of soda is applied for 10–15 minutes. Leftovers are removed with a damp cloth. The tool relieves and prevents the appearance of blisters.
The wound, which is less than 2 days old, is treated only with pharmaceutical antiseptics and ointments.Ulcers covered with a hard crust can be treated with traditional methods:
- Peel two medium carrots, grate. Spread the crushed mass evenly over a piece of gauze. Put the carrot compress on the burned area, remove after 2 hours. Juice removes discomfort and inflammation.
- Put an enamel saucepan on a low fire, pour 100 ml of unrefined oil into it. Take olive, flaxseed or sunflower. Put 100 g of real butter in a container and add as much pork fat. Wait until the components melt. Combine with 10 g of beeswax. Stir, put in a mass of a teaspoon of crushed propolis. When the components turn into a homogeneous paste, you need to put in a hot ointment 5 g of sulfur. The blank is wrapped in a gauze bag and dipped into the mass for 15 minutes. The remedy is then removed from the plate, cooled and rubbed into the ulcers in order to speed healing.
- Rip off a few fresh sheets of plantain. Rinse the grass under the tap, dry and knead with a rolling pin or fingers to make the juice. You can grind the plant in a blender. Plantain applied to the burn for 20-40 minutes three times a day.Rinse off the juice is not necessary.
- Edema and inflammation removes natural green and black tea. Prepare a strong drink. Honey and sugar do not add. Wait until the tea has cooled, moisten a gauze cloth in the product. Apply a compress 7-8 times per day.
- Fresh burn of the first degree is treated with chicken egg. Protein is separated from the yolk, whipped and applied to the affected skin and healthy areas around it. The burning sensation that appears immediately after application will disappear in 3-5 minutes. If you quickly treat the burned epithelium with protein, there will be no blisters.
- Helps and potato starch. You can buy ready-made powder and make a thick gruel by mixing the product with cold water. It is cheaper to peel and chop two medium potatoes. Wrap the root vegetable in gauze and attach to the wound for 5–10 minutes. Repeat every 2-3 hours. Rinse starch residues with cool water, apply antiseptic to damaged skin.
- First degree burn treated with blueberries. Put 100 g of fresh or frozen berries in a saucepan. Add half a glass of water, cook for 10 minutes. Mash softened blueberries with a fork, cool and apply to the injured skin.
- Pour a cup of hot water 40 g of oak bark. Cover the mixture, hold on the stove for 10 minutes, turning on a low fire. Strain cold broth, moisten gauze tampons in a herbal remedy, apply to burns.
- Pain and inflammation soothes pumpkin pulp. Orange medicine is applied to the injured skin with a thick layer, left for 20 minutes, so that the juice is absorbed into the burned epithelium. Remove the residue with a damp cloth, rinse with cool water.
- Finely chop a bunch of green onions, boil in a little water. Add bearberry flour to make a thick dough. Mass with a thick layer applied to the injured epithelium, remove after drying.
- Cut a large sheet of aloe. Remove spines, wash the plant under the tap. Grind, squeeze the juice, dilute with cold boiled water in the ratio of 1 to 1. Saturate with aloe medicine a gauze pad, apply to a first-degree burn. You can handle the juice and closed wounds, which are more than three days. The plant accelerates skin regeneration and has anti-inflammatory properties. The dressing should be changed every 4 hours, before bedtime and immediately after waking up.
- The injured epithelium will quickly restore the gruel of boiled lentils or raw beets. The selected product is wrapped in a piece of gauze or simply applied to the affected area. The remains wash off after 20 minutes.
Folk remedies accelerate recovery, but if the patient after the self-treatment has become worse, you need to consult a doctor. Consultation of a traumatologist or therapist will be needed at elevated temperature, suppuration and weeping ulcers that do not want to drag on. Experimenting with folk recipes can not be older people and patients with diabetes.
Boiling water burn: what not to do
Only a doctor can pierce blisters and cut off dead skin. Specialist conducts the manipulation of sterile instruments. If you pierce the bladder with a normal needle or scissors, an infection will enter the bloodstream and it will all end in sepsis.
The bandage stuck to the wound should not be pulled off abruptly so as not to injure the burned tissue even more. Gauze is soaked with peroxide or furatsilina solution, and then carefully removed, trying not to tear off the crust, which was formed on the surface of the wound.
Adults are forbidden to give alcohol for sedation and internal disinfection. Do not stick a plaster on a burn, wash the wound with a solution of potassium permanganate or burn green paint. If there is no antiseptic on hand, in which there is no alcohol, a sterile bandage is applied to the affected skin. Blisters and open wounds cannot be treated with folk remedies.
Boiled water burns are one of the most common domestic injuries. Both adults and children overturn hot drinks, so there should always be antiseptics and a sterile first-aid bandage in the first-aid kit. Independently, only first and second degree burns can be treated. The third and fourth patient needs urgent hospitalization and qualified medical assistance.
