How to teach a child to write beautifully and accurately

Disgraphy (handwriting disorder) is a common problem in both adults and children. But if an adult can consciously control the tidiness of his own handwriting and learned to disassemble written by other people, then the children do not possess this ability. It is important even in early childhood to inculcate to the child a hunt for a beautiful letter: this is useful for him, since he can disassemble what he has written himself, and for those around him — the same teachers — who are to read sheets written in children's hands.

 How to teach a child to write beautifully

Beautiful and legible handwriting is a big plus on all sides. You understand what you write, the people around you also understand, and from an aesthetic point of view it is nice to see carefully drawn letters, and not scribbles, which even the author is unable to make out.

Rate the importance of the problem

Without the realization that dysgraphia is a question that should be seriously thought about, initially you will fail. If you notice that your child writes extremely illegible, and dismissed it, justifying himself with what he learns at school - you are fundamentally wrong! It will not learn, because handwriting is a matter of habit. And the older a person is, the harder it is to fix this habit.

To make sure that the child needs to teach the beautiful spelling, read the following:

  1. Primary school marks are most often used by teachers for calligraphy. A reduced assessment with a correctly performed task raises a legitimate question, to which the teacher will answer that the child wrote illegible / carelessly / made too many blots. The teacher in this case is right: after all, it is in his interest that his students write legibly. If you do not want to see a child saddened by a low assessment, teach him to write beautifully and carefully!
  2. In this age of computer technology, many people, relying on the artificial intelligence of machines that automatically correct errors and place commas, do not develop the skills of writing as such.In the future, it turns into incidents with documents that need to be filled out by hand: blots, “dancing” letters and the handwriting of “chicken paw”. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to inculcate in the child the habit of writing, and not typing. It is easy to learn how to print, because calligraphy is not important here, but learning to write is difficult, but this skill is needed in life.
  3. No matter how much the teachers want every child to write carefully and legibly, in modern schools the basics of calligraphy are given too few hours, for which it is absolutely impossible to learn how to write letters correctly. Work with your child at home by yourself. Believe me, he will thank you for it.

Causes of bad handwriting

Wrong posture - the most common cause of curved handwriting, in our opinion. With the wrong sitting position, the hands, as a rule, are in an extremely uncomfortable position, therefore, instead of beautiful letters on a piece of paper, various kinds of scribbles appear:

 Causes of bad handwriting

  • The child writes the letters “n”, “k”, “i”, “n” in such a way that it is impossible to distinguish them from each other;
  • The letters, contrary to the line, “fall” under the line or “fly up” above it;
  • In the letters "sh" and "m" the child draws the extra curls.

Rules for proper fit:

  • the child is seated with an even back; the shoulders and neck are relaxed, but not crooked;
  • hands lie on the table, but elbows do not touch its surface;
  • between the table top and chest, the distance is equal to the palm, set parallel to the table surface;
  • legs are exactly on the floor or on a special stand (you can’t cross them or throw them one on top of another - this bends the spine).

Having taught the child to the correct position of "sitting", you will initially contribute to his beautiful handwriting: the child will not be clamped in an uncomfortable position, and the hand will quietly slide over the paper, displaying neat letters.

Another reason - undeveloped motor skills (especially fine). Here we are talking about somewhat inhibited movements of the fingers and hands, which is why the joints do not work in full force, and the child does not have enough flexibility to write neat letters.

  • The child incorrectly displays the rounded elements of the letters;
  • The letters of the student are not just ugly, but incorrectly written;
  • All letters are of different sizes, and there are a lot of blots on the sheet.

In this case, it is worth thinking about holding a gymnastics class for the wrists and fingers: usually in elementary school, the teachers spend it before the start of classes.

Try to give the child small items in his hands, collect mosaics of small details with him - all this develops fine motor skills and improves handwriting.

The following factors indicate a poor spatial perception (non-orientation in space):

  • Different spacing between letters in one word;
  • Different intervals between words in one line;
  • The child confuses the letters in the word, rearranging them in places, or writes them in a mirror image;
  • When writing words the child goes beyond the field of the notebook.

In this situation will help again the game. Ask him to repeat the movement with his left hand in the air with his right hand (for example, you can write out the same letters) or play with the child in “Find the prize”, where he should follow your instructions exactly to find a small gift.

How to solve the problem of ugly handwriting

Having dealt with the causes of ugly handwriting, you should proceed to their solution.

 How to solve the problem of ugly handwriting

  1. As already mentioned, it is necessary to teach to sit properly and evenly.
  2. Actively develop fine motor skills: collect mosaics, cut, make appliques, assemble origami, draw, hatch, weave bracelets from threads, etc.
  3. Buy your child a copy: he can write in them with a soft pencil and pen.Record it is necessary to choose those in which the pale dotted line indicates the outline of a letter or word that the child should circle around with his hand. Also fit in the recipe, where after the imprinted letter or word there is a space intended to repeat its writing by the child.
  4. Spelling and calligraphy classes should be held every day for 15-30 minutes. Make sure that your child does not numb fingers from zeal.
  5. Teach how to properly hold writing materials. For the initial stage of training, the handle in which special recesses for the fingers are made is quite suitable. The handle lies on the upper phalanx of the middle finger, and the thumb and index fingers tightly clasp it, while the thumb is above the index finger. The tip of the writing instrument is directed strictly into the shoulder. The length of the pen or pencil should not exceed 15 cm.
  6. The notebook is always at an angle of about 25º relative to the edge of the table.
  7. The writing desk and the chair on which the child is sitting must correspond to his height.
  8. Never rush the child - it will only worsen the handwriting! First, he must learn to write beautifully, and after that - quickly.The speed will come with time, the main thing is to regularly devote time to the lessons of calligraphy.
  9. Find an incentive if your child refuses to do calligraphy. Never make him do something, because it will not succeed.
  10. Never scold or punish your child for failures: not everything works out the first time. And in no case do not start to compare it with other children - it will only understate his self-esteem and discourage the whole hunt for learning.
  11. Observe the regime of work and rest.

Learning stages

  1. Tracing contours. In special records there are not only letters, but also various figures, patterns, etc., printed in dotted lines.
  2. Writing letters, their combinations and individual words on the model (special recipes, referred to in paragraph 3 of the previous section);
  3. Rewriting individual words, sentences and texts into a lined notebook.
  4. Consolidation in the form of everyday writing in a notebook paragraph from some story.

Never adjust your child: the time during which he learns a beautiful letter is individual. Be patient, follow the read tips and then at school your child will not have problems with calligraphy!
