How to clean Teflon coated iron

Teflon is considered to be a unique material. Due to its universal properties, the coating has found its purpose in industry and household items. Teflon is extremely resistant to high temperatures, it is quite light and slippery. For these reasons, the composition is used for the manufacture of irons, since the coating of this kind is able to smooth persistent creases on any, even delicate types of fabric. The undeniable advantage of Teflon over other materials is considered to be its durability and high efficiency.

Causes of carbon on teflon coating

  1. The most common reasons include running water, which is poured into the corresponding hole. The manufacturer recommends the use of distilled or filtered composition, but this rule is often neglected. As a result of evaporation, scale is formed, which later turns into a full-scale deposit. Over time, it burns, forming a dark canvas.
  2. Nagar on a Teflon coating appears due to prolonged contact with colored (natural) or synthetic types of fabric. A similar problem arises due to incorrectly selected temperature for ironing the product, when the sole of the device practically sticks to the fabric.
  3. Perhaps the most trivial option of pollution is the contact with sticky and resinous substances on the surface of the iron. This can happen by inattention, if you accidentally walk the sole on the glued application. After the time, under the influence of temperature, the composition is increasingly spreading, sticking to the surface.

It is important to remember forever that Teflon does not tolerate harsh treatment with abrasive particles. For this reason, it is worthwhile to closely monitor the consistency of the composition used, avoiding the ingress of rigid elements.

Table Vinegar

Method number 1

  1. This option involves the use of acetic solution (not to be confused with essence) or citric acid.
  2. Dissolve 20 gr. (1-2 bags) of citric acid in 350 ml. purified water (cool boiling water). Wait for the crystals to dissolve, then proceed with the procedure.
  3. If you want to use vinegar, buy a product with a concentration of 9%.
  4. Pour one of the formulations (acid or vinegar) into the hole in the iron where the water for steaming is usually added.
  5. Connect the device to the network, set the temperature to maximum and wait for the heating.
  6. When the sole heats up to the desired state, prepare a piece of cotton cloth.
  7. Take the iron so that it is vertical. In another hand, place a piece of cloth. Both items must be parallel to each other.
  8. Press the steam release button 3 times to hit the matter. Then immediately bring the fabric to the sole of the iron and press it, do not burn it.
  9. Repeat the previous manipulations 5-7 times, until you achieve the desired effect.
  10. You will notice that traces of scale build up on the steam holes. They must be removed with cotton buds after the iron has completely cooled down, using citric acid or vinegar.

Method number 2
 How to clean the iron

  1. Prepare an acetic solution with a concentration of from 6 to 9%.Not to be confused with the essence, since it varies in the range of 60-70%.
  2. Connect the device to the network, wait until the sole of the iron is fully heated to the maximum mark.
  3. Dip the cosmetic sponge into the vinegar solution, wipe the surface around the edges.
  4. If the cotton pad does not rush to the iron, walk on the sole several times. Change tampons as they become dirty for effective cleaning.
  5. When the smooth area becomes shiny, dip the cotton buds in the vinegar. Treat the holes that steam comes out of, as they also get dirty.
  6. At the end of all manipulations, take 2 pieces of cotton fabric. First dip in vinegar, wipe the sole clean.
  7. Spread the second on the board and iron it with an iron so that the residuals remain on the fabric. Do not press hard on the iron, you only need to walk a little through the material.

Method number 3

  1. The technique consists in soaking the soleplate. Prepare in advance the glass container in which the device fits in an upright position.
  2. Put in the bowl two devices that do not allow the sole to touch the bottom.
  3. Pour an acetic solution (6–9% concentration) into the container so that it covers only 1 cm of the iron.
  4. Place the appliance with the sole down, pour in a small amount of boiling water, which will subsequently be paired with vinegar.
  5. If you wish, you can replace the solution with citric acid by dissolving it in hot water and pouring it into a bowl.
  6. The exposure time varies from 30 to 60 minutes, it all depends on the degree of contamination.
  7. At the end of the term, moisten the cosmetic swab in pure vinegar / citric acid solution and wipe the teflon coating.
  8. When the surface cleaning is complete, process the steam outlets with cotton swabs moistened in the composition.

Hydrogen peroxide
For effective cleaning of the iron, 6% hydrogen peroxide solution or “Chlorhexidine” is used, which can be purchased at the pharmacy. Processing is carried out in a well-ventilated area, while the iron does not need to be included in the network.

How to clean iron with hydrogen peroxide

  1. Before the procedure, wipe the sole of the iron with a nail polish remover or glass cleaner.
  2. Next, moisten the cotton cloth in a solution of hydrogen peroxide, treat contaminated places on the Teflon coating.
  3. As practice shows, the soot disappears after 3-4 rubbing, have patience.
  4. At the end of all manipulations, re-treat the sole with glass cleaner or nail polish remover with acetone.
  5. Iron a small piece of cotton cloth to remove excess cleaning agent.

Hydroperit solution
The tool is used in the same way as hydrogen peroxide, only acts many times more efficiently. Hydroperite is available in tablets and liquid form, the latter option is preferable, because it is already a ready means.

  1. Clean the Teflon coating in a well-ventilated area, because the smell is too acrid.
  2. Connect the device to the network, heat up to the maximum mark.
  3. Moisten a cotton pad in a solution of hydroperit, gently walk on the sole several times.
  4. When you achieve the desired effect, turn off the iron and let it cool.
  5. Next, moisten the cotton cloth in the solution, wipe the surface of the device with it, removing the remains of burning.
  6. Turn on the iron again, heat it to 180-190 degrees, iron the fabric for final cleaning.

Despite the fact that Teflon is much longer than products made from aluminum, metal or ceramics, irons of this kind are still dirty.Experienced housewives through trial and error brought out several effective recipes for cleaning Teflon soles. Choose your favorite method, use the composition according to the instructions, do not disturb the proportions.
