It is sewn from a special material that is able to retain heat, preventing cold wind from sneaking up to the bones. Now in the shops you can find a huge amount of sheepskin coats of various styles and even colors: after all, winter is no reason to dress in dark dark colors.
However, no matter how comfortable and warm the sheepskin coat is, it has one major drawback: the material from which it is sewn attracts all sorts of pollution. And if you do not remove them in time, then in the future it may very unpleasantly affect the appearance of the thing: you risk not simply washing it out.
Sheepskin material
For a start, it is worth getting acquainted with the material from which the vast majority of sheepskin coats are sewn.It is necessary to select the appropriate means and method of cleaning. You do not want to destroy the thing with your wrong actions?
Basically, for the manufacture of this thing is taken sheepskin. The material is quite common and bring it from many countries.
- Spain - feels like: pleasant, soft and light;
- Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, France - average for all the above signs. They are a little rougher and heavier than the Spanish;
- America is the hardest and very rough sheepskin.
You can also find sheepskin coats made of fur velor. Depending on the characteristics of the material, they are:
- Without cover. In fact, it is simply polished leather, which selected the best skins. Such things look very expensive and beautiful, but, unfortunately, they fasten and pollute faster than others.
- Coated. The process of making skins for this material is different: they are covered with a special solution that contains some types of natural resins and various additives. This combination creates a kind of protection from pollution, so products made from this material are practical and convenient for everyday wear.It is easy to maintain cleanliness in them, but only if you know for sure what solution was applied to the skin (nappalan, crack, silk, etc.)
So, before you start cleaning, make sure you understand what your sheepskin coat is made of. This will facilitate the selection of the cleaning agent, and the process itself, and will protect against possible unpleasant consequences in the form of stretching, fading of the material, etc.
Cleaning with cereals
This type of decontamination is ideal for uncoated sheepskin coats, since such material processing is more fastidious in care than any other.
Instructions for cleaning surface contamination:
- To begin with - dry the item and straighten it on a flat surface. So you will see every pollution, and loose cleaning substances will not roll down to the floor.
- Take the semolina or salt, pour a little on a soft cloth and from the edge of pollution to its center with quick circular movements remove most of the dirt.
- Brush out the soiled semolina / salt and repeat your actions, but without active pressure over the entire surface of the contamination.
- Shake off the remains of the grits and brush the sheepskin coat with a stiff brush.
To clean greasy sleeves, cuffs and scuffs on pockets, an ordinary eraser or a special rubber brush for suede will fit perfectly. But the way works only on fresh “damages”, it cannot cope with old ones.
The safest way is to clean the sheepskin using dried bread crusts. If pollution has appeared recently, then “rubbing” with bread will quickly cope with it. Bread can crumble, so stock up on several crusts for a replacement.
Immediately fatty spots (!) Sprinkle with semolina. As it is soaked with fat, brush it off the surface and pour in a new one. Salt in this case is better not to use: it can brighten this place.
After cleaning, if possible, clean the entire surface with a suitable water repellent solution. So your thing will last longer.
Cleaning with water solutions
This method is applied to products with a coating. As a rule, sheepskin coats with the “silk” coating are the easiest to clean: it is enough to treat impurities on them with wet wipes. For other coatings and severe contamination:
- Moisten a napkin in a solution of shampoo and alcohol solution of ammonia - a teaspoon of shampoo is added to a glass of warm water and half is added to ammonia.
- Treat the surface with gentle movements.
- Rinse the napkin more often, and in case the solution becomes cloudy, prepare a new one.
- In the end - wipe dry the surface and leave the sheepskin in the straightened state. Do not dry it on the battery or on any other heating device, otherwise it will be covered with cracks!
Other ways
Of course, there are less safe methods, but it is worth resorting to them only if you are sure that you can cope.
- As an option: clean the pollution with gasoline, and collars and cuffs with a solution of glycerin and ammonia. But! First, there will be a not very pleasant smell, and, secondly, such aggressive means can leave you without a thing. Therefore, before the experiment, make a sample in a small area.
- Various special tools for cleaning sheepskin can also cope with the problem of pollution. But before buying a product, once again clarify what material and coating your product has in order to avoid the negative effect of cleaning.
- If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to give the thing to dry cleaning: there are professionals who will competently and accurately save the sheepskin coat from all sorts of damage and dirt.
