Any drug should be taken correctly, otherwise the therapeutic effect will not be achieved, this also applies to eye drops. In order for the drug to penetrate the eye and begin to act, it is necessary to bury it by the rules, thanks to which it will be possible not only to keep the drops on the mucous membrane, but also to avoid possible side effects.

How to drip drops into the eyes

What is eye drops

Eye drops are solutions of drugs used to treat ophthalmic diseases. Medicines of this type are made from oily or aqueous solutions of the active substance. These sterile drugs are used for the treatment of eye diseases as well as for relieving unpleasant symptoms.

Drops are made using a special technology, thanks to which the maximum effect is achieved. The components of the solution are selected in such a way that after the drug enters the mucous membrane, the active substance penetrates through the cornea into the anterior chamber of the eyeball for half an hour.

To maximize the drug effect, you should consider the correct dosage of the drug, following the exact recommendations of the ophthalmologist.

How to apply eye drops

If contact lenses are used, eye drops should not be used, since the active substance of the drug may accumulate on the mucous membrane, which may result in an overdose. In cases where the patient cannot refuse to wear contact lenses at all, they should be removed during the instillation of the drops and not worn for half an hour after this procedure.

If the oculist has prescribed several eye drops at the same time, then it is necessary to maintain an interval of 20-30 minutes between their use. That is, first drip one medicine, after half an hour the second and after the same period of time the third, if necessary.

The duration of the reception of medicinal drops for the eyes is prescribed by an ophthalmologist. Usually, when acute infectious processes occur, it is necessary to apply the medicine before12 times a day. To alleviate the condition and relieve the symptoms of acute diseases, drops are used up to 3 times per day.

If the doctor prescribes the simultaneous reception of eye drops and ointment, you should first drip the medicine, and then, after a few minutes, lay down the lower eyelid ointment. If you do the opposite, the ointment will not allow the drops to penetrate the cornea.

How to bury drops in the eyes

Wash hands thoroughly. If a bottle of drops is stored in the refrigerator, it should be removed at least 10 minutes before the procedure, since the cold solution does not penetrate the cornea poorly. Do not heat this drug, as it may lose its properties.

 How to bury eye drops

Get a mirror and sit back so that you can slightly lean back. Throw back the head and left hand to pull the lower eyelid until it folds. If you loosen the eyelid too much, the medicine may leak out of the eye. The bottle is more convenient to hold in your right hand.

Look up, while not losing sight of a bottle with drops, bring the drops to the eyes, without touching the tip of the eyelid, so as not to damage it.Drop the required amount of solution in the conjunctive sac.

Cover your eye and easily press with your index finger on the inner corner of the eye. Soak the eyelid with a dry sterile cloth. Repeat the same steps with the second eye.

Features of the application for children

Babies of any age can develop a disease such as conjunctivitis. In this case, the eyes become red, itchy and give the child an unpleasant feeling. For the treatment of a disease, an optometrist prescribes eye drops, but many mothers face the problem of how to properly drop the baby. The following instruction will help in this:

  • Tightly swaddle the baby and ask dad to take him in his arms.
  • Let dad pick up the brightest toy and hold it so that the child looks up.
  • Quickly pull the eyelid baby and drip a drop of solution.

If the solution still gets to the closed eyelid, do not get upset, you need to massage the inner corner of the eye with a slight movement and keep the baby in a horizontal position for a while.

You can drip the medicine when the baby is sleeping, but in this case, you should make sure that it has penetrated under the eyelid.

How to store

All medicines for instillation into the eyes must be stored at a temperature not higher than 25C, so that they do not lose their properties. You can use open eye drops no more than a month.
