How to make perfumes on your own at home

In the modern world it is difficult to find a person who would not use perfume in everyday life. Many even have a few bottles of fragrant water on the dressing table for almost all occasions: for work, for a walk, or even for an evening date. Toilet water is used by both men and women, and even children, for whom cosmetic companies create special fragrances.

But quite often a person is confronted with the fact that with all the diversity of perfumery he cannot find the combination of smells that would accurately reflect his personality. In this case, the only way out is to create your own perfume!

Prerequisites

Of course, the reason that prompted you to take on a kind of creativity can not only be the lack of the right combination of smells. Pricing policy assumes that when buying any product in a store, we pay extra for its packaging, for production costs, and for the labor of the people who made it ... Yes, we pay a lot for what we want.

Of course, the price of perfume (especially brand) bite. Not everyone is happy with this, especially if the thought that it is possible not to buy what you want, but to create it with your own hands, having achieved a more complete and voluminous result than the one contained in a factory vial, is already floating on the back of your mind.

We are not saying that from the first time you will be able to create truly magnificent spirits, that there will be no mistakes and blunders, but if you don’t have the opportunity to try, it will be somehow offensive.

Where to begin

To get started: set yourself up. In your head should not be thought that the creation of perfumery water - it is only professionals with a delicate scent. Not at all, the creator of fragrances can be any person, if he clearly represents what he should be.

Next you need to purchase the necessary materials. Here we are talking not only about extracts, but also about tools that will be useful in the process of work. It is also necessary to familiarize yourself with basic knowledge. The basic law of perfumers is the presence of three main components in perfumes: “head”, “heart” and “base”. In this order we will create our own unique flavor with our own hands.

Tools and materials

As mentioned above, before the main work you need to prepare everything that will help you in creating your fragrance.

1. The basis of any perfume is alcohol. It is important to remember here that cheap alcohol (or vodka) will only spoil the scent of future perfume water. Take either pure alcohol or high-quality vodka. If you are afraid of a possible echo of a harsh alcoholic smell, you can use olive oil or jojoba for the base - they do not have a pronounced flavor.
2. Pure water. In the most direct sense - clean! Either distilled or key, as any tap admixture can give an unexpected (not always pleasant) flavor.
3. Glycerol. Quite a bit to give stability to the fragrance.
4. Natural whole or ground coffee beans. First, they interrupt any fragrance, of which you will hear nemereno in work, and that they do not mix in your nose, you need a rather pungent odor that will "erode" them. Secondly, coffee is a good filtrate, eliminating unnecessary bits of aroma from the overall picture.
5. Essential oils sold in any pharmacy. You should choose them taking into account the smell that you ultimately want to receive.
6. Be sure to have on hand a pen and a notebook for records, where you will record each stage of your work and the sequence of adding ingredients. This will correct possible errors or repeat the whole process in case of satisfaction with the result.
7. Several ordinary pipettes. With them you will measure the required number of drops of oil at different stages of work. Several - in order not to wash the instrument from one or another smell every time.
8. Paper strips, as testers in the perfumery and cosmetics stores. It is quite suitable and a tetrad sheet, and album. They are needed for the application and storage of the obtained samples.
9. Several bottles of opaque glass or ceramics with a lid tight to the neck for storing perfumes.

Process - Theory

We recall the rule of three components: "head", "heart" and "base". Since you are a beginner perfumer, for the first experience we recommend using three essential oils in the well-known ratio of 1: 2: 3 (1 drop for the “head”, 2 for the “heart”, 3 for the “base”).Of course, dozens of components are mixed in the toilet water on the shelves of perfumery stores, but three will suffice for the basics.

It is worth noting that for each component there is a certain list of suitable flavors (aroma table), which can be found in free access on the Internet. Before you start combining flavors, we advise you to familiarize yourself with similar tables.

1. "Head" - the most volatile essential oils, the aroma of which disappears 5-30 minutes after applying perfume on the skin. Here you can use oils of citrus, mint, bergamot, vervain.
2. "A heart" - accordingly, less volatile oils, the smell of which disappears within 12-24 hours. Because of this time difference, you can often feel that by evening the fragrance that hovers around you has changed significantly. These include: pretty fragrant flowers (geranium, lavender, sage, thyme).
3. "Base" - the most stable oils, the smell of which remains a intoxicating aftertaste after the disappearance of the "heart". You can take: vanilla, rose, oriental spices, myrrh.

Process - practice

1. We take the same strips of paper that were cut in advance, and with a pipette (preferably for each fragrance separate) put on them one by one.a drop of essential oil. For convenience, mark the strips with a simple pencil - it does not smell, unlike pens.
2. Enumerate as many possible combinations of different smells for the “heart” as possible (it is created first of all), bringing pieces of paper 1-2 to the nose (be sure to interrupt the aromas of coffee or coffee). After the chosen combination of aromas suits you completely, proceed to fixing it at the base.
3. To begin with, we calculate the required amount: 3 parts of essential oils for 7 parts of the base. Since we have 6 drops of essential oil in 3 parts, therefore, for the base you need 14 drops. From this proportion, you get a very small amount of the finished product, but it will come down completely for the probe. Further, applying the same proportion, you can prepare a bigger bottle.
4. Next, mix the selected essential oils (1: 2: 3) and add them to the substance selected for the base (alcohol or oil in the proportion specified in paragraph 3), and knead until a homogeneous mass. We leave in a dark cool place to stand for a couple of days (do not use the refrigerator!).
5. Then add water to this mixture (40 ml of base - 1 tablespoon) and a couple of drops of glycerin, mix and set aside again for a couple of days.
6. All your perfume is ready! Do not forget that they should be stored in a closed dark container: the smell will not disappear.
