After acquiring an apartment, the newly minted owners are so busy putting things in order that they completely forget about the little things. The same thing happens after installing plastic windows, the frame and glass of which are covered with protective film. After a certain period of time under the influence of direct ultraviolet rays, the coating begins to crack, distorting the penetration of light. Plastic parts fade unevenly, and the glue is quite firmly embedded into the surface structure. To fix the problems, it is necessary to remove the protective film as soon as possible.

How to remove the protective film from plastic windows

Technology of removal of a film from plastic windows

According to the manufacturers, the protective film should be removed within 10-12 days after the installation of plastic windows. This term is due to the fact that the coating consists of two layers, which are attached to the frame with an adhesive backing.

The inner part is quite tender, for this reason it quickly collapses and begins to stick to the plastic parts. The situation is complicated with each passing day, forcing housewives to clutch at the head.

In the case of the top layer of problems should not arise, it departs even after 2.5-4 months after the installation of windows.

To clean the glass and frame from the glue and remove the film without harm to the product, it is important to observe the features of the procedure. Let us highlight effective methods and give practical recommendations.

Method number 1. Construction dryer

To remove the film from the surface of the windows, you can use the building dryer. Purchase an appliance at a specialty store or large hypermarket (Leroy Merlin, OBI, etc.). For the procedure, it is not necessary to choose a drug with several heating functions, it is enough to buy a cheap option “at one time”.

Read the instructions, plug the dryer into the outlet, heat up. In no case do not put your hand under the air flow, so as not to get burned.Direct the dryer not to the glass, but to the plastic frame. Maintain a distance of about 35-45 cm. So that the film does not melt.

Under the influence of high temperatures, the adhesive base will soften, which will easily remove it from the surface of the windows. Pry off the free edge, walk around the surface with the terminals with a hard cloth dipped in acetone or solvent for auto enamels.

Method number 2. Scraper

To remove the film from the surface of plastic windows will help kitchen scraper, which cleaned enameled and glass-ceramic plates. The tool is sold in “Everything for Home” stores; it is a spatula with or without a rubber tip.

To use the tool correctly, pry the free edge of the film with it, slowly pull it while at the same time help yourself with a scraper. Move along the inner (adhesive) part of the film, avoid breaks in the protective material.

When the procedure comes to an end, inspect the glass and frame for the presence of glue. If positive, spray window cleaner over the entire surface, leave for a quarter of an hour, constantly updating the composition. When the glue has dissolved, remove it with a scraper.

Method number 3. Office eraser

The option is considered to be ineffective if the film is on the windows long enough (about 2-3 months). To remove a sticky compound, purchase several school erasers. The main thing is that they are clean (without a trace of a ballpoint pen or pencil).

Before proceeding with the procedure, make sure that the surface to be cleaned is perfectly dry. Next, start rubbing the remains of glue with an eraser, rolling them into oblong lines. Proceed step by step, process the individual zones in turn (about 5-10 sq. Cm.).

To increase the efficiency, you can spray the frame and glass solvent for paints or enamels, also suitable for removing nail polish, pure acetone.

Method number 4. "White Spirit"

An excellent option for removing the protective film from plastic windows is a building dryer in combination with White Spirit. Heat the surface of the frame from a distance of 40 cm., Pick up the edge with a scraper, then gently start to peel off the film with your hands.

When you separate the order of 10 cm., Spray with a spray "White spirit" on a sticky surface.Clean the base with a gauze cloth or scraper, gradually move down.

After removing the protective coating, sticky marks may remain on the glass and frame. Wipe them with a hard cloth dipped in “White Spirit”, use a rubber tip scraper if desired.

Method number 5. "Cosmofen"

Firms for the sale and manufacture of windows produce a tool called "Cosmofen". The main objective of the drug is to clean the metal structures from sticky formations after removing the film. The drug is available in different concentrations, it all depends on the number of active ingredients in the composition.

"Cosmofen" marked "№5" is considered the most effective, but it is able to dissolve the plastic, for this reason it is recommended to be careful. Also, drugs are produced under the number 10 and 20, it all depends on the duration of exposure of the film on the glass.

To properly use the composition, it is important to consider the recommendations of the manufacturer. As a rule, after removing the film, the mixture is sprayed over the entire surface, and then carefully removed with a cloth or scraper.

During work with the composition, it is mandatory to wear goggles, a mask, gloves. If possible, wear a long sleeve robe.

Method number 6. Blade

Perhaps one of the most common options is to remove the film with a sharp knife or blade. To do this, just pick up the free edge, then gently pull the film at a sharp angle. It is not excluded that it will tear, do not rush.

Remove glue residue can be blade. The main thing is to pre-moisten the surface with any agent that contains a solvent. Suitable acetone, "White spirit", industrial solvent, nail polish remover, etc.

Do not press on the blade to avoid scratching. After removing most of the glue, wash the windows with dish detergent and a stiff sponge.

Method number 7. Paint remover

Purchase a paint remover called RP-6 at a hardware store. Pry off the free edge of the film with a knife or blade, gently pull it down at a sharp angle. Next, apply "RP-6" on the entire surface of the adhesive base, soak for a quarter of an hour (the exact time is indicated by the manufacturer on the package).Protect your hands, respiratory system and eyes while working with the product.

Remove excess with a dry cloth, prepare a solution. Rub on a grater half a bar of soap, dilute the chips in 3 l. boiling water, mix. Moisten a rag, wipe the glass and frame until the glue disappears.

It is easy to remove the protective film from the surface of plastic windows, if you use effective methods. Consider cleansing the glue with “White Spirit” or an industrial solvent, remove it with a stationery eraser, blade, “Cosmofen” or “RP-6”. Observe safety precautions.
