- 10 Video: how to remove a foreign body from the eye
It is not uncommon for a small-sized foreign body to enter the eye. Dust, shavings, cilia and other foreign objects hit the mucous membrane, as a result of which a person experiences discomfort. In most cases, such events are accompanied by pain, nerve endings are irritated and depleted. Since the epithelium has its own protective functions, the cilia that comes in will not be able to severely injure the eyeball. However, the discomfort must be relieved, we consider effective ways in order.
When a foreign object gets on the mucous membrane, the eye tries to protect the epithelium and begins to water. It occurs at the reflex level, exactly like blinking, squinting and other reflexes. However, such actions may not always completely eliminate the threat. Some cases require external intervention.
Method number 1. Removal by touch
Of course, the eyelash can get into the eye at any time of the day. Handy tools, such as sanitary sticks or a mirror, are not always at hand. To carry out the procedure properly, wash your hands and dry them.
Try to determine “by touch” exactly in which area the eyelash is located. Start from your own feelings. Then try to move the object with clean fingers along the lower / upper eyelid from the outer corner of the eye to the inner.
Repeat the manipulation 3-4 times until you achieve the desired result. You will feel relieved when the cilium rolls down to the inner corner of the eye. You will only have to gently grab it with a fingertip, without smearing the makeup.
Method number 2. Wipes and mirror
Fold a handkerchief or tissue paper into an envelope so that a sharp corner is formed. Aim the corner of the product at the eyelash and try to hook it. A foreign object must stick. As soon as this happens, slowly remove your hand.
Method number 3. Contact lens cleaning
There are frequent cases when the eyelash sticks to contact lenses, distorting vision. This method of extraction is difficult in its own way, since the contact lens is rather difficult to pull out so that the eyelash stays on it.
After extraction, dip the lens in a special solution or send it to the bin (for disposable items). In cases where the lens is clean without any foreign objects on the surface, carefully examine the eyeball.
Method number 4. Language extraction
Perhaps the most bizarre, but effective way to remove eyelashes from the eye. The option is suitable for people who are resting in nature. As a rule, in such situations it is not possible to thoroughly disinfect hands or use a mirror.
To solve the problem, contact a friend or girlfriend, ask him to "lick" your eye. Removal is done as follows: the eyelids are moved up and down, respectively, the eyelash should be in sight. As soon as this happens, the partner needs to capture it with the tip of the tongue in order for the object to stick.
Method number 5. Century massage
Sometimes the eyelashes do not fall under the upper or lower eyelid, and remains in the center of the mucous (on the pupil or protein). Do not rush to immediately remove the object with your fingers, so as not to drive the eyelash further.
Do the trickier: close your eyes, massage the eyelid from the outer corner of the eye to the nose with gentle horizontal movements. In no case do not perform manipulations in a circular motion, otherwise it will be difficult to follow the eyelash.
After the object is at the inner corner, remove it with the edge of a scarf or napkin. For convenience, you can use cotton buds (as long as the villus does not get on the mucous membrane).
Method number 6. Cotton buds
Having the tools at hand, you easily remove the eyelash from the eye. It is not always a foreign object falls on the mucous membrane, in most cases the hair remains under the lower eyelid.First you need to choose a place with natural light, you also need a mirror and children's cosmetic sticks.
If the eyelash is left on the mucous, remove it with the pad of your finger, after washing your hands. In cases where the object had time to slip below, gently wrap the eyelid and bring a dry cotton swab to a moist eyelash. It will easily stick, you will only remove the object.
Method number 7. Massage and washing
When the eyelash falls under the upper eyelid, it becomes much more difficult to remove. First of all, it is necessary to change the place in which the foreign object was fixed. Try to blink, the eyelash should fall just below.
If blinking did not help, close your eyes and proceed to the massage. Slide your finger along the upper eyelid in the direction from the outer corner of the eye to the inner. Repeat steps 5 times, evaluate the result. If the eyelash does not change its location, all you have to do is wash it.
To perform it correctly, follow the basic instructions. To get started, take a clean glass, pour boiling water over it and turn it upside down. When the container is completely dry, pour boiled water of room temperature or saline solution (sold in a pharmacy) into the cavity. The best option is considered a liquid for soaking and washing the lenses, but water is also suitable.
Now attach the glass to the eye so that you can blink in the liquid. Optionally, the container can be applied horizontally to the face, if the individual features of the face allow. This method removes eyelashes and other debris, not only from the upper but also the lower eyelid.
Method number 8. Eye drops
When the eyelash falls on the mucous membrane, the eyes automatically begin to water. Over time, the tears become less, dryness appears, and the foreign object is not removed. If you have tried all of the above tools, and they were unsuccessful, go to radical measures.
Get a drop in a pharmacy against eye strain. Drop them according to the instructions, then wait for some time. Open your eyes, cilia by the time change the place of deployment. It will remain either under the lower eyelid, or move to the mucous.
Remove the object with cosmetic sticks, paper napkins or fingertips. After the procedure, try not to strain your eyes for some time.
Practical recommendations
- Do not attempt to pull the eyelash with the back of a sewing needle. In most cases, such manipulations end up with a retinal injury and a subsequent operation.
- If you have tried all of the above methods, and each of them was unsuccessful, do not try to do anything else. Lie down to rest with your eyes closed, as practice shows, after sleep, the eyelash shifts to an accessible place for removal.
- Not everyone can pull an eyelash on their own. If you fail, contact the clinic or emergency room. Experts will do the washing, observing hygienic norms and rules.
- If, after the procedure, the eyes become red and inflamed, the mucosa is most likely dehydrated. Acquire an artificial tear in a pharmacy, the drug moisturizes the eyeball and relieves discomfort.
- Do not ask another person to get an eyelash from your eyes. As a result of such manipulations, you will often blink, fearing that a friend or girlfriend will hurt. This is a defensive reaction, which is very difficult to get away from.
- In rare cases, the eyelash is removed quite simply. Wash with cold water while staying with your eyes open. If possible, use filtered liquid, it does not cause discomfort.
It is easy to pull the eyelash out of the eye, if you follow the sequence of actions and precautions. Try to remove the object by touch. Consider using chopsticks, sterile wipes, or a tissue. Acquire an artificial tear, clean the lenses with a special solution, drop eyes.
