How to store a motorcycle in the winter: useful tips

It is considered that a motorcycle refers to a more "gentle" technique than a car. Due to weather conditions, bikers cannot use an iron horse all year round, as a result of which they are forced to “preserve” it for the period of inactivity. To keep the equipment in good condition, it is necessary to have sufficient knowledge regarding the specificity of conservation. Stage number 1. Choosing a place to store

  1. The main aspect of conservation is the choice of the room with the optimum temperature. As a rule, the indicator should vary in the range of 12-16 degrees. It is important to remember forever that temperature fluctuations often lead to the formation of condensate that corrodes parts and assemblies of a motorcycle.
  2. It is worth paying attention to the humidity of the room, it should not exceed the mark of 35-40%. Some moto owners practice storing at home by placing equipment in the far corner of the room.
  3. Major cities are equipped with so-called motorcycle storage centers. In such institutions, all conditions are met, so it makes sense to consider this option.

Stage number 2. Gasoline Conservation

  1. Conservation always begins with the fuel system. If you store a motorcycle with an empty gas tank, corrosion will begin to grow in its cavity. Later foci will hit the entire fuel system, which will lead to disastrous consequences.
  2. Visit the gas station, fill the fuel "to the eyeballs." To properly carry out the procedure, first refuel the motorcycle standing on the footboard, and then set it straight and add gasoline to the lid, if possible use the help of a friend.
  3. Since modern gasoline has an unpleasant feature to oxidize due to the short shelf life, it is necessary to add additives to the fuel. Get a tool to clean the valves and fuel system, while still at the gas station, add it to the gasoline according to the instructions.Such a move will burn carbon and prevent deposits that appear at the bottom of the tank during oxidation of the fuel.

It is impossible to wash a motorcycle with alkaline compounds, such products do not provide sufficient protection against corrosion.

  3. After washing, collect excess water with an absorbent sponge, let the motorcycle dry in the open air. If desired, you can cover the technique of polish, but in most cases it only attracts dust.

  3. If the motorcycle has a four-stroke engine, unscrew the spark plugs, spray the compound into each hole for 3-5 seconds. At the same time, it is necessary to simultaneously rotate the crankshaft in a convenient way (rear wheel, kick-starter).
  4. In the case of two-stroke engines, the tool is poured directly into the carburetor inlet, and the engine must work.Duration of spraying is about 12-15 seconds, not longer. If necessary, support the throttle stick so that the engine does not stall before the end of the procedure.

Stage number 5. Silicone parts processing

  1. During the period of processing the engine all the parts dried out after washing, it was time to process them with silicone. These include rubber bands, glands, wiring, swivel joints.
  2. Purchase a Silicon Spray lubricant store (Silicon Spray) in a thin layer and spread the composition onto the engine, plug and wheel oil seals. Process also cooling tubes. The grease prevents cracking of the rubber, its hardening and premature aging.
  3. As for electrical wiring, Electronic Spray (Electronic Spray), which is applied to the connectors, will help protect it. For wires it is recommended to use another tool called “Marder Schutz Spray”, it will scare away rodents.
  4. With regards to cables, handles, hinges and traction, lubricate the above parts with the engine treatment compound or the LM-40 multi-purpose tool.
