 Brown boig

Acrobat among tree snakes

It does not cause much harm to man, because it enters the family of the already-obsolete and its bite is not lethal. Its peculiarity lies in the structure of poisonous teeth. They are fixed in the back of the upper jaw and fixed. The structure of the body of the snake allows you to do amazing things. She is able to travel in the air distance equal to half the length of her body. And since from the nose to the tail in large individuals is up to 3 meters, the distance between the objects reaches 1, 5 meters.

The color of the body of snakes of this species ranges from a single brown, to a colorful, playful bright stripes. The size varies within 1.5 meters, but a specimen that reached 3.1 m was caught and studied.

Boigi prefer to settle in the forests, but there are cases when they were seen in glades and flat areas, in crevices. The diet includes small mammals, lizards, birds and their eggs. Young snakes start with a lizard hunt, it is difficult to catch and immobilize them. Perhaps that is why the poison of young individuals is much more dangerous than that of adult reptiles. The composition of the poisonous substance includes postsynaptic neurotoxins that cause numbness, heart rhythms fail, symptoms of difficulty breathing and local inflammation occur. Poison is valued by serpentologists, so adults are caught for medical needs.

Habitat captures Indonesia, New Guinea, Australia, Solomon Islands.

Reproduction and growing up

During the season, the female can lay eggs twice. It all depends on her physical condition and weather. A warm dry hollow is chosen for laying, the number of eggs ranges from 4 to 12, in the classic version there are 7 of them. The incubation period lasts 76 days, if cold weather suddenly comes, it will increase by 2 weeks. Hatching snakes are 33 - 40 cm in length. Their maturity does not depend on the past years, but on the length of the body. They are considered adults, reaching 1 meter in length.

Ecological disaster on the island of Guam

 Boiga irregularis
70 years ago, a brown bogea from habitual habitats hit the island of Guam. Whether it was brought by accident in the ship’s hold or released intentionally is no longer known. But having quickly multiplied, the snakes ate everything they could reach. Of the 12 species of birds left 3, almost disappeared lizards and bats. It got to the point that snakes did not disdain frogs. They didn’t have natural enemies on the island, therefore the numbers rapidly increased, reaching in some places 100 individuals per 1 hectare. The unique abilities of the boys to overcome the horizontal gaps played a cruel joke with them. Snakes began to hang on power lines and cut off wires, after which the population of the island regularly remained without light. In search of food, they crawl into transformer booths, disrupting the operation of machinery.Zoologists are looking for ways to curb the population on the island, but so far there are no tangible results. The only thing that can be done is to prevent the view from spreading to other islands.

Interesting Facts

Brown boiges calmly allow one to observe oneself in natural conditions, therefore such facts are reliably known:

  1. Snake venom is not lethal to humans, although it delivers a lot of unpleasant sensations.
  2. The body structure allows the boyge to rise vertically at 82% of the body length.
  3. She freely gets to any bird's nest, flying up to 1, 5 meters of space horizontally.
  4. In captivity is very rare.

Any animal should be treated with respect, not provoke it, and then the snakes will also behave calmly. Beautiful and graceful, brown bogey is an ornament of the jungle, surprising with its outstanding abilities.
