Kurzhaar is always in a good mood, ready to go on a long hard hike with numerous obstacles, bird and animal hunting. He will endure a long journey, tirelessly finding someone's footprint, listening to every rustle, looking at everything that he meets with interest, and exploring the paths, thickets, and surroundings. And every movement will be accompanied by grace and grace.
Story
The most distant ancestors of this breed are Pointers, who were known to the ancient Egyptians. But the Kurzhaars as a separate breed appeared only in the XIX century, when they needed dogs that could chase game for a long time and be universal hunters. For these purposes, began a long breeding work.
In order to get a universal kurtshaar, representatives of many breeds at one time tried, but special emphasis was placed on Dalmatians and Pointers - Spanish and English.Then the famous German families were included in the list of founders of the breed - hounds and vyzhla, Weimar cops. What is important - for breeding dogs were chosen not for the features of the exterior with pronounced signs. The decisive role played precisely the specific working qualities of the animal. That is why such a unique kurtshaar appeared, which will successfully cope with any service and even bring a floating object to the owner, because the dog swims well, and its wool very much resembles the composition of duck feathers. These qualities of representatives of the breed, too, are obliged to long selection, because a real hunter must get game from the cold river and swampy swamp.
Over time, these dogs came to America, but they were not accepted very well as hunters and watchmen, arguing that hounds are much better able to cope with such duties, and there were a lot of different breeds there, and they were all strictly divided according to certain qualities .
But, since the American canine experts recognized the breed, since then there are differences of opinion in the color of the Kurzhaar:
- Germans recognize black or black with white;
- in America, rich brown or brown combined with white are more appreciated.
Description of external standards
Based on modern standards, it is recognized that the Kurzhaar belongs to the varieties of the German Pointing, of which there are three types. In principle, their exterior is very similar, and the differences are mainly in wool. Compared with the Kurzhaar, then:
- there is a long hair on the muzzle of the Drathaar;
- Langhara has softer and softer hair, and is especially pronounced on the ears and tail.
At the Kurzhaar, the height at the withers is:
- for males on average from 58 to 64 cm;
- for bitches - from 53 to 58 cm.
Weight of males can be from about 25 to 32 kg, bitches from 20 to 27 kg.
Muzzle elongated. The head is small and proportional to the body. The musculature is well developed.
Differs in this breed color. It may be solid black or brown. There are also combinations - either with white spots, or with yellow burns. By the way, this breed is different in color and abilities. And if you want to know exactly what color your pet has, you just have to look at the nose carefully. It is he who will tell the correct answer. For example, in dark brown nose necessarily brown. Accordingly, black and the nose of the same color.
The coat is short and snug.Feel tough and rough. When breeding, they sought precisely such qualities that dry branches and burdocks could not cling to wool. Coarse wool, which fits to the body very tightly and easily repels moisture, allows you to hunt waterfowl.
The limbs are well developed, which allows the dog to not get tired with long movements both in open areas and in the forest zone. The rear limbs are especially developed, they allow him to jump high and run many kilometers without rest. Paws have unique fingers for dogs: their structure is such that no objects or clods of dirt and snow can get stuck between them. The membranes on the legs help to swim easily and quickly.
There are also long claws, so that you can run without any interference on the most diverse surfaces, and on the mountains as well.
When the owner decides that the pet needs to take part in the exterior exhibition of dogs, he must be sure that the bite is correct and that the animal meets all accepted standard parameters.
The stand in this breed is notable for amazing grace: the head is lowered, but the gaze is fixedly focused on the victim.One paw is raised, and the tail becomes straight and tense, slightly trembling. Even very small puppies already know how to repeat this position, inherited from their ancestors. And they take this position, noticing a small piece of paper - this is how the hunter's instinct works. These dogs always have a noble posture, the contour lines are very smooth.
Fact! Valued in this breed is very finely developed sense, amazing scent, strength and endurance.
It also requires the dog to run around the ring correctly and not to harm the specialists when examining the teeth. Kurzhaar should be able to take his famous stand, which he needs during the hunt. This happens at the gene level, but still requires correction, because the owners during training should pay much attention to it. During the exhibition, the dog is required to stand so long enough. It is not allowed that the pet behaved aggressively towards other people and animals, and showed complete indifference to others.
Clockwork and energetic dog
For a Kurzhaar, the rest time seems to be nonexistent.He is constantly on the move, and if he is in a confined space, he may spoil furniture and wallpapers from boredom. But he remembers his duties as a watchman all the time, so in case of danger he starts barking loudly and for a long time, but he can not always lash out and even bite.
The big energy of the dog makes the owners be more mobile, run along with the Kurtzhaar and invent various outdoor games. But since this dog is constantly in search of adventure, it will be necessary to teach her commands from an early age, and this should be done by one of the family members whom the puppy recognized as the leader of the pack and is ready to obey.
Remember! Only if you provide your pet with decent workload and seriously engage in upbringing, will it be possible in the future to get a decent educated friend.
Sometimes disputes arise between dog handlers - is it possible to keep the Kurzhaars as a pet, or is it intended only for hunters, and routine measured life will only spoil the animal. Indeed, for the sake of an attractive look, this breed should not be started; a very large limitation in movements can destroy the dog.
When you want to choose a puppy for your home, you need to consider that if the dog belongs to the hunting category, she has a very developed instinct to follow the trail, track down the game, and if the dog is excellent in its working qualities, it will be deprived of it, depriving it of unique properties.
In the caring hands of the owners
Kurzhaar, appearing in the house, does not require special care. The main thing - to give him a separate place. A small litter will be enough, it will be cozy in a small room, for example, in a closet - in a corner. The problem may be walking time. For this breed, walking usually takes longer than for other breeds. In the fresh air, the kurtshaar should be at least three times a day, and each walk usually takes from 30 minutes to an hour. But during each walk it is not enough to walk along a given route, as this will not satisfy the mobile kurtshaar. We'll have to give the load, be sure to lower the leash, throw various objects, forcing the pet to run and bring them back. But it is not necessary to burden the dog too much, each owner should really appreciate the possibilities of the dog.
It is necessary to bathe a pet, but it is permissible to do this no more than twice a month.Typically, representatives of the breed very easily tolerate water procedures. They molt three times a year, and it is during these periods that the wool must be combed out with a special brush, which is purchased in specialized stores. Combing is usually done during a walk, as the deceptive short wool actually causes a lot of inconvenience in the house - so much it turns out, and it is almost impossible to clean it off. Therefore, after such a “hygienic” walk, when many people come home, they put on and wet rubber gloves and several times spend on dog hair to remove the fallen wool.
Fact! Kurzhaar can be maintained in any climate, as long as there is always room for decent physical exertion.
Veterinarians do not recommend feeding fatty foods - it will adversely affect the digestive system and the snuffing ability. It is enough for an adult dog to eat twice a day, for a puppy 3-5 times.
Meat in the diet must be, and if you mix it with nourishing porridge, the dog will gain enough weight, which is of great importance in determining the exterior.It is imperative that, with properly planned nutrition and rational loads, in a pet of this breed, the last three ribs are distinguished. This condition never loses its meaning.
Both health and working qualities are largely dependent on nutrition, as well as regimen. Each age group requires its own special diet. After the puppy has just been taken away from the mother, dairy products will definitely be needed. This is his usual milk and kefir, necessarily low-fat cottage cheese. Useful puppy will be raw yolk and cheese, finely chopped lean meat or chicken or beef.
After three months, the meat should be basic in nutrition, but dairy products will gradually leave the menu. In 6 months they should already be quite the minimum amount. Only kefir and cottage cheese are allowed. At this time, puppies are fed three times a day. From one year old the dog is transferred to food two times a day.
Bakery products and all kinds of sweets are contraindicated in this dog. Potatoes should also be excluded. Based on the fact that this breed of hunting, it is possible to spoil the scent of a pet with sharp, smoked food.
Be sure to nutrition should be foods rich in vitamins.When buying food, choose one that is necessary for energetic sports dogs.
There are some problems that are closely related to the breeding of this breed, as it does not have a clearly defined exterior assessment or a working diploma. The endless mixture of breeds, during which different parents were used, led to the fact that often puppies were born weak and painful, with pathologies. When they became adults, it turned out that they had an insufficient set of necessary hunting qualities, were difficult to train, did not have the necessary stance, and could not withstand the required loads.
There is another problem. The best representatives of the breed are so excellent hunters that during the pursuit during the hunt they very often die or get lost when large animals are pursued.In this way, some of the best are lost, which could later produce wonderful offspring. Because the owners need to be very attentive, and, most importantly, devote a lot of time to training.
Health
A positive fact for the owners: unlike other hunting fellows, this breed almost does not suffer from diseases of the joints and femoral dysplasia. These dogs live up to 16 years, considered long-lived.
