The dangers of ice cream for nursing mothers

The diet of women during lactation should be extremely balanced and safe. Especially in the first six months of the baby, when breast milk is the main source of nutrition. Ice cream, which is sold in the store - this is not the most innocent product that could be consumed during breastfeeding. The danger of cold delicacy is in the following aspects.

  1. First of all, casein is present in ice cream, which enters the product along with cow's milk. Drinking fresh milk during breastfeeding is strictly prohibited, because casein in unchanged form enters the breastfeeding, and the child is unable to digest these molecules - his intestines do not yet produce the necessary enzymes. Most casein molecules are destroyed by long-term boiling. However, in the process of preparing ice cream, the milk is not boiled - only it is pasteurized, that is, it is brought to a temperature of 90 degrees, and then it is cooled rapidly. This means that a lot of casein remains in the dairy product, which is not recommended for nursing mothers. Otherwise, the child may experience such reactions as bloating, severe flatulence, discoloration and stool consistency, the baby becomes capricious due to discomfort in the tummy.
  2. In the composition of the modern product there are a lot of additional ingredients and additives that can hardly be called healthy and useful. These are emulsifiers, stabilizers, flavors, dyes, etc. They are harmful not only for a nursing mother, but also for anyone, even a healthy person.
  3. Another danger of this product is a high risk of developing allergies. We are talking about numerous additives - fruit, honey, nuts, chocolate. All these products are considered allergens, the baby may have problems with the gastrointestinal tract, and diathesis may also develop.
  4. In the composition of ice cream, as a rule, a lot of sugar. First, sugar is a high risk of an allergic reaction. Secondly, sugar causes fermentation processes in the intestines, which increases the formation of colic in the stomach. Third, the woman does not need the extra calories now, because young moms try in every way to get in shape after pregnancy and childbirth.

Summarizing, we can say that shop ice cream is not recommended for women during lactation, especially in the first 4-5 months of a child’s life, until his intestines mature and begin to react normally to milk protein and other components of the treat. But if you want to enjoy a delicious ice cream, do not rush to deny yourself this pleasure. Tasty and safe ice cream can be made independently at home.

  1. For two servings of ice cream, you will need 300 ml of natural milk, 150 ml of heavy cream, 90 grams of sugar, some vanilla sugar to taste, 35 grams of milk powder and 10 grams of cornstarch, which is used instead of a thickener.
  2. Milk should be pre-boiled for at least 10 minutes to get rid of casein as much as possible. Take 300 ml of ready, boiled and cooled milk.
  3. In a saucepan, you need to mix dry milk, sugar and vanilla sugar. If the baby is prone to diathesis, the amount of sugar can be reduced or eliminated this ingredient completely.
  4. Separately, starch should be dissolved in 50 ml of milk.
  5. The remaining milk is poured into the dry mixture and thoroughly stirred until completely dissolved, after which we set the composition on the fire, bring to a boil.
  6. Then gently pour the cornstarch mixture into the boiling milk. The total mass needs to be stirred constantly - after a while it will become denser, a little thickened.
  7. Next, wait for the mixture to cool, and pour the composition into a glass cup or bowl, send it in the freezer for a couple of hours.
  8. Every 20-30 minutes, the composition should be thoroughly mixed so that ice crystals do not form on the surface, and the ice cream is as airy as possible.

After two hours the product will be ready for use. If desired, you can add fruit, fruit juice and syrup, chocolate, cocoa, nuts, honey, candy, waffles, etc. to the ice cream. But all this can cause allergies - be careful.

The benefits of homemade ice cream

Homemade, natural ice cream is not just a tasty delicacy that a woman can afford, even if she feeds a child. It is also a valuable source of vitamins and nutrients.
